Obtaining Sewer Service

Existing Buildings
(with existing sewer connection)

Residential and Small Business located within Charleston County from Mount Pleasant Street (in the neck area) North to the Berkeley and Dorchester County lines need to contact our billing agent, Charleston Water Systems, to sign up for sewer services.  You may reach their offices by calling 843-727-6800.  There is a one time non-refundable initial charge of $30.

Well Water and Industrial Customers need to complete a Customer Information Form.  This form needs to be sent to our office either by fax, mail, or delivery.  Our fax number is (843) 764-2651.  Our mailing address is P.O. Box 63009, North Charleston, SC 29419.  Our Physical location is 7225 Stall Road, North Charleston.  There is a one time non-refundable initial charge of $30.  A change in dwelling use may require additional permit fees, grease traps and/or pretreatment charges.

Food Service Establishments are required to install a grease trap.  Grease Trap Applications need to be completed and sent to our office by fax, mail, or delivery.

Grease Trap Installation Procedures

        1.  Complete a grease trap application form
        2.  Install the correctly sized interceptor (trap)
        3.  Have the trap inspected by District personnel.  Call our offices at
            (843) 764-3072 during office hours Monday through Friday 7:00am-5:00pm
        4.  Annual inspections will be performed by District Personnel

Repairing or Replacing your existing sewer systems requires a re-inspection permit (no charge).  The permit may be obtained by visiting our office located at 7225 Stall Road, North Charleston.  Our standard specifications apply to your repairs.


 
New Construction

Sewer availability may be obtained by completing a request form. This form needs to be sent to our office either by faxing, mailing, or delivering. Our fax number is 843-764-2651. 2. Install the correctly sized interceptor (trap).
3. Have the trap inspected by District personnel. Call our offices at 843-764-3072 during office hours Monday through Friday 7:00am- 5:00 pm.
4. Annual inspections will be performed by District personnel.

Connection Charges- In order to connect to the sewer system, a connection permit and a one time non-refundable initial charge of $30.00 must be paid. The connection permit fee is $1,250 per REU (residential equivalent unit). A REU shall mean the equal of one single family dwelling unit and is defined as the injection of approximately 250 gallons or less of wastewater into the sewer system on a daily basis. Our Engineering Department will calculate the number of REUs using the information you provide on your application form.

Connection Procedures:

1. Complete a residential connection permit application form or a commercial connection permit application form. This form needs to be sent to our office either by faxing, mailing or delivering. 2. After your connection permit fee has been calculated, pay this fee at our offices located at 7225 Stall Road, North Charleston. Cash, Check, Visa, Master Card, and Discover are accepted.

3. Locate the lateral service for your property, if you need assistance locating the lateral please call our offices at 843-764-3072 during office hours Monday through Friday 7:00am- 5:00 pm to schedule.

4. The plumber/owner then connects their sewer line to the District’s trunk line within the public right of way. The connection must be made in accordance to the District’s specifications.

5. Prior to covering your sewer line it is mandatory to have the line inspected by District personnel. Call our offices at 843-764-3072 during office hours Monday through Friday 7:00am- 5:00 pm to schedule an inspection.
